DESCRIPTION:The new season of the club kicks off on Wednesday 30th September\, 7pm at Kelso Rugby Club and it’s our 50th Anniversary Year! \nYes\, we’ve been going for 50 years so maybe one or two surprises on the night. \nFor our Guest Artiste\, we really wanted to have someone who has been going as long as us\, and so no better than the Iain McPhail Scottish Dance Band. \nIain is bringing a full 5-piece band\, with Brian Griffin on 2nd accordion\, Claire Gullan on fiddle\, Gordon Smith on drums and Isobel Hodgson on piano\, so be prepared for a cracking sound. \nOur local artistes will also entertain and there will be goodies at the break. DESCRIPTION:Smailholm Art Show 3–4th October \nSmailholm Village Hall will be hosting its inaugural curated exhibition of three dimensional art\, with a prize awarded for the most outstanding piece. \nThis year’s theme is Water —explored through an exciting range of materials including ceramic\, glass\, mixed media\, fabric and sound. SUMMARY:Kelso Music Society
DESCRIPTION:1st concert of our 75th Anniversary Season. \nReiving\, family feuds\, unrequited love and all in the setting of the Borders’ bonnie landscapes and towns. This programme explores how the rich tradition of Border Ballads has inspired Scottish classical composers – from orchestral tone-poems to art-song settings. The music and composers in this concert may be new to you\, but the stories are as old as the hills\, as they say. \nThe Bubblyjock Collective was formed in 2023 by 3 friends studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) and celebrates Scotland’s classical and contemporary music. It took its name from a comic-dramatic poem by Hugh MacDiarmid describing the absurd appearance and call of the turkey\, which was set by Ronald Stevenson in 1966. \nThe group consists of Neil Sutcliffe\, a classical accordionist\, teacher and Archive Manager at the Scottish Music Centre\, Rosie Lavery an opera singer\, recitalist and conductor and Anna Michels\, a pianist and teacher at both St Mary’s Music School and the RCS. Anna is returning to Kelso after a hugely successful appearance at KMS several years ago. \nAlways collaborative and innovative\, they have willingly taken up the challenge of producing an unique programme for KMS\, based round the theme of Border Ballads. \n£18. Going onto star in the sell-out arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar\, he became one of the West End’s Leading Men. Playing the title character in Lloyd Webber’s musical adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera\, more success followed. There were other hits before and after – including Grease\, Thriller – Live\, The Rocky Horror Show\, Evita\, Elf\, and more. The tour follows the release of Ben’s new record – Musical’s Greatest Hits\, on Westway Music – and in this intimate show\, Ben will sing the hit songs that made him a star – as well as sharing captivating stories about his life in the limelight.
