Kelso and District Amenity Society

Kelso and District Amenity Society (KADAS) exists to promote and encourage interest in and care for the beauty, history and character of the town of Kelso and its surrounding district. While our chief concern is with protecting the built heritage of the town, and more especially the buildings and character of the Conservation Area, our interest extends to anything to do with the condition of the town’s public spaces and amenities.

We meet every two months when, typically we discuss planning applications (we are regularly consulted by Scottish Borders Council on plans for the Conservation area) plus a wide range of other matters, from major developments like supermarkets and traffic management schemes to litter bins and grass cutting problems. We are also responsible for the creation and maintaining of the Walter Scott trail in Kelso.  In 2014 the Society has organised the purchase, on behalf of the town, Margaret Peach’s painting of Kelso at the time of the Abbey which is now hanging in Kelso Library.
