Kelso Folk and Live Music Club

Kelso Folk & Live Music Club promotes music making in traditional and contemporary fashion, both in a cabaret-style setting and in the more informal environment of a Scottish pub music session. All are welcome and the many regulars involved try to make visitors feel a part of the circle. As well as its weekly meetings, the club also runs a mini folk festival in September. www.kelsofolkfestival.org

The club meets on a Friday night, very much throughout the year for an acoustic sing-around in The Oak Room at the Cross Keys Hotel, which fronts onto the town square. It is a cabaret-style evening held in a comfortable lounge, with food and drink available from the bar. It runs from 8.00 pm to 10.30 pm. This is a really relaxing place to hear a diversity of musicians and singers, and a great venue for performing.

There is also a weekly tune session in the Hunter’s Bar at the Cross Keys on a Thursday night from 8 pm. Here mostly Celtic tradition tunes are played by musicians on a range of acoustic instruments, including small pipes, hammered dulcimer, mandolin, guitar and bodhran.
